‘Divine’ (2016) was commissioned by The New Art Gallery Walsall as part of Jones’ solo exhibition and installation, of the same name, at the gallery in 2016. It is a large multi-panelled work taking the studio of the tattoo artist as its subject. Emblematic of a religious altarpiece, the triptych refers to Laocoön and His Sons, an ancient marble sculpture in the Vatican regarded as an icon of human agony and suffering. The work questions the psychology of extreme procedures in the pursuit of physical perfection.
